Start the year off in a healthy way! The Paramus Board of Health is offering a free screening program for hypertension for all Paramus residents on Friday, January 11th, 2019 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at Paramus Borough Hall, according to Judith Migliaccio, Borough Health Officer.
Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick or have noticeable symptoms, but even without being aware of the changes irreparable damage to the heart and other organs can occur. Therefore, it is very important to have your blood pressure checked regularly, Mrs. Migliaccio added. Hypertension is a treatable condition which can be monitored with the help of the Board of Health Nurses. No appointment is needed.
A free screening program for diabetes and hypertension for Paramus residents will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Paramus Board of Health. Persons who are over 40 years old, overweight, or related to a diabetic, should be tested once or twice a year. Those being screened are advised to refrain from alcoholic beverages 24 hours prior to testing as alcohol consumption can alter the test. Following the dietary instructions is important for the test results to be accurate. Pre-registration is necessary. Call the Board of Health Nurses for an appointment and dietary instructions at: 201-265-2100, Ext. 2307 or 2308.
Board of Health member MaryAnn Uzzi invites residents to take advantage of this important health service.
