Paramus Recreation Intent to Coach

  1. RECREATION INTENT TO COACH

    I AM INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING AS A VOLUNTEER COACH IN THE PARAMUS RECREATION COMMISSION'S 2020 SEASON OF THE SPORT LISTED BELOW. I AM FULLY AWARE THAT IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE AS A COACH, I MUST COMPLETE THE PARAMUS RECREATION COMMISSION’S COACHING REQUIREMENTS, INCLUDING THE RUTGERS YOUTH SPORTS COACHING CLINIC, FINGERPRINTING AND/OR BACKGROUND CHECK AND THE NFHS CONCUSSION AWARENESS COURSE. COACHES WILL BE ASSIGNED TO TEAMS ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED ORDER BASED ON WHEN THIS INTENT TO COACH FORM WAS RECEIVED BY THE RECREATION OFFICE.

  3. PARAMUS RECREATION CODE OF ETHICS

    The Code of Ethics may best be successful and achieved through the positive behavior and attitude of the coaches in competitive games and organized teaching.

    TO UPHOLD SPORTSMANSHIP IN ATHLETICS, THE OBJECTIVE OF A COACH IS TO:

    • Treat all players with respect
    • Inspire in the athletes to have a love for the game and the desire to compete fairly
    • Develop a need for sportsmanship
    • Develop control over emotions and speech
    • Instill a spirit of cooperation and team play
    • To uphold an obligation of honesty and fair practice in the pursuit of athletics

    IT IS THE DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITY OF ALL COACHES TO UPHOLD THESE OBJECTIVES BY:

    • Teaching the players to play within the rules
    • Exercising self control by developing courage in defeat and tolerance and modesty in victory
    • Respecting the judgment and interpretation of the rules by officials
    • Prohibiting the use of profane language or the harassment of opposing players
    • Exercising close supervision of all players from the time they are scheduled to arrive to the time they are dismissed by the coach
    • Giving all children an opportunity to develop their skills by providing adequate playing time
    • Establishing a practice of shaking hands immediately following each game in a sportsman like manner.
    • Prohibit the use of (tobacco products) and alcohol at all recreational sponsored games and events.
    • Under no circumstances is any coach to encourage his/her team members to participate in any “quick weight alteration program”

    The intent of the Code of Ethics is self-evident. The Recreation Commission will review violations.

    • Any participant, including coaches, parents, players, and official, may file an ethics infraction against a coach
    • The grievance must be in writing and include the coach’s name, date of complaint, ethic principal being broken/ignored, and any other information important to the Recreation Commission

    Upon receiving the complaint, the commission will meet with the concerned parties to discuss the grievance. The Commission will issue one of the following:

    • No action
    • Warning to the coach
    • Suspension from the next scheduled game played and with further review by the appropriate recreation committee on the “Code of Ethics”
    • Expulsion from coaching recreation

    Coaches are not permitted to use participant information provided by the Recreation Department, including but not limited to e-mail and mailing addresses for any personal reasons. When coaches e-mail their team, they are required to use the BCC field to hide personal e-mail addresses from recipients.

    I have reviewed the CODE OF ETHICS and assume responsibility for all the objectives. And understand that this CODE is final.
